A special guest during this year’s Maritime Economy Forum will be Professor Dorota Pyć, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development

A special guest during this year’s Maritime Economy Forum will be Professor Dorota Pyć, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, who is responsible for issues connected with maritime economy and inland shipping. During her address she will try to answer the question about the role of Polish law in shaping maritime economy growth factors.

The Minister is an outstanding specialist in the field. She is a member of the Codification Committee for Maritime Law, vice chairman of Maritime Law Committee at Polish Academy of Sciences, she has also written numerous studies on maritime law, law of the sea and maritime economy. Among the most renowned ones we e.g. have the Lexicon of Maritime Law.

She was born in Gdynia and has been involved with the Pomerania region for years. She graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdansk and still continues her academic career at the university. In 2000 she was awarded the academic degree of Doctor, and in 2012 – Habilitated Doctor of Juridical Science. She has been Associate Professor at the Department of Public International Law, University of Gdansk since 2013. Both her Ph.D. dissertation (“The Influence of the Principle of Sustainable Development on the Protection of Environment and Natural Resources in the Baltic Sea Region”) and habilitation dissertation (“Global Ocean Law. Res Usus Publicum”) were connected with maritime issues.

It will not be the first time when Professor Dorota Pyć graces the Forum in Gdynia with her presence. In 2013 she was one of the experts in the debate on the significance of the Baltic Sea for Polish economy and defences against the backdrop of global trends. Last year her speech opened the part of the Forum devoted strictly to maritime issues. In her speeches she emphasized that: “The International Economic Forum is an exceptional event. There are only few initiatives which are so successful in creating opportunities for discussing issues of key importance for maritime economy. The Forum makes it possible to develop an important part of national economy, it constitutes a point of reference for considering maritime issues in national and EU context. Only joining efforts makes it possible to maximize benefits for the economy and the society”.
